We are a premier surf school in North County San Diego. Whilst our focus is to provide top quality surf instruction, our goal is to make the experience of surfing positive, safe and fun for all. We want to send each surf student home with a smile on their face and stoke in their heart.
We take a very professional approach to progressing our students in their surf lessons. Whether in an individual surf lesson, a group surf lesson or a surf camp, we provide levels and benchmarks for each surfer. This is so they will have a clear idea of where they are and exactly what they are working to achieve. Progressing up through each level provides motivation and clear goals, so that each student can easily see their improvement with us.
Buenas Olas” is Spanish for “Good Waves”. Here in North County San Diego, we have many world class waves and an incredible coastline. We are proud of the stunning nature and inspiring heritage that Californians have to offer. We honour this local culture by encouraging diversity, offering surf lessons in both English and Spanish, introducing community outreach surf programs and providing surf clubs and surf camps where girls and boys from any background or culture can surf in a safe and non-threatening environment.

Our goal is to create a safe space for every individual to feel welcome and comfortable while learning the art of surfing. In our eyes, things like age, size, gender, race, religion or ability shouldn’t define anyone's chance to get on a board and catch a wave. We take pride in protecting our students by understanding their needs and teaching them the right behaviour for the line up.
Meet Cruz
Cruz is a dynamic, hard charging surfer, with deep passion for bigger waves, love and respect for the ocean and all those that he can share this with. For many years, Cruz has been one of the top surf instructors in and around North County San Diego, developing, teaching and mentoring kids and adults of all ages. Growing up as a local surfer, from Del Mar to Oceanside, you could always find Cruz somewhere at the beach or in the water.
Throughout his life, Cruz was lucky enough to be taught and mentored by some of Southern California's surfing legends. In Southwest Tijuana, he was able to take his surfing to the next level as Cruz learned to navigate and eventually dominate bigger heavier waves.
Cruz has led a rich ocean life that has included teaching, mentoring, surfboard shaping, surf exploration and tour guiding all over the world. Cruz has dedicated his life to learning from the ocean and to keep progressing his, and his students' surfing.
“Working as a surf instructor and mentor feels very fulfilling, because I am not only introducing my students to a new skill, but I am also showing them a healthy and happy lifestyle. Being one with nature and respecting the environment and people around you can bring you real happiness. This is something I am dedicated and passionate about sharing and teaching to as many people who want to learn”.
